"As a writer, I can think of many words that describe Jen and Jackrabbit Studios (affectionately known as Jackie)—loving, sumptuous, caring, thoughtful, inspiring, supportive, wise, intelligent, fierce, feminine, resilient, magnetic, powerful, inviting, welcoming, artistic, enveloping, vulnerable, spiritual, connective, kismetic (<3). And on and on. But recently I’ve come across a really perfect one that describes them both: mycelial. They hold space as the center of this beautiful, interconnected web that harnesses and transmutes energy, wisdom, intelligence, strength, creativity, art. Those of us lucky enough to find ourselves in this web remain eternally reverent and grateful. In the nearly four years that I’ve known Jen and Jackie as friends, colleagues, sharers of the human experience, they’ve taught me so much about myself, life, others, the balance of yin and yang—feminine and masculine energy—and certainly about art, creativity, community, and the expression of each and these altogether. I’ve grown as a writer, editor, photographer, creative, and human just knowing Jen and Jackrabbit. Both cradle a special, invigorating power that is hard to put into words. It’s a power that teaches you it’s not about lamenting how long it took for them to arrive in your life, but about sitting in gratitude that they arrived at all."

"Jennifer possesses an uncommon gift with language. Her ear is sharp, her word choice both precise and surprising. She is culturally literate and exceptionally well read. But what has impressed me most over the course of our work together is not the strength of her gifts. It is her willingness to question them. Jennifer understands that language—especially language as refined as hers—can sometimes become a kind of mask. A way of presenting truth rather than inhabiting it. One of the central commitments I have seen her make is to recognize the moments when that tendency activates and to commit herself to reaching for what is essential, even when it is plain. That kind of work requires patience and a rare brand of self-awareness.

‍

Jennifer will likely describe herself as a survivor, and she inhabits that identity with grace and sensitivity. And yet loss has not provoked in her a loss of connection to lineage. You immediately sense in Jennifer a feeling of continuum, one that connects her to her roots, both as a Jew and as a human. She approaches that continuum with humility and a clear sense of responsibility."

“I first conspired with Jennifer on her writing, years ago now, a relationship that became a friendship and colleagueship, and now a family. Knowing her as a writer (and on) has been learning a way of being (noticing, telling) that continually inspires life in me and my work. Her attention astounds. Her capacity to hold. When I think about what changes I want to make in my life, at times of hard and of exuberant joy, Jennifer (Jenny) is one of the people whose qualities of living I bring forward to guide and inspire her. Her playfulness, her poeticism, her judgment, her taste. She lives closely and she is worthy of the event more than anyone I know. Every time I see my mom, she asks after Jenny—they met once. My sister takes her advice and they have never met. She reminds me of outside. She has an inner wildness, a winkingness, beckoning, an invitation. Any kind of conversation or being-with you might need in your journey, you will never forget her air.”

“Jen has shifted the path of my life in our work together over the last two years in ways that are challenging to put into words. Working with her has been the single best investment I've made in my life. She has intuitively and spiritually guided me through life's large and small challenges and helped me build a foundation of wisdom and connection that has allowed me to move through the world in a way that feels more authentic and aligned with my higher self. It is challenging to describe our work to others, as it feels like a magical combination of therapy, coaching and spiritual guidance through a combination of creative expression and intuition.”

“Recently, I took a call with a dear friend of mine who works as a creative caretaker. If you’re like what… is that, it’s exactly what it sounds like. She takes care of people’s creativity. And if you’re caught in the italics thinking that’s not a job, then I have to ask: What if I said she was a creative director? A financial advisor? A mental health coach? Because she is, in fact, all three.

This particular caretaker took my creativity in her hands, just for a catch up, and with all her tender wisdom, turned into Tom Hardy. She nudged me ever so gently into a deep well of what was I doing taking one-off copy gigs when I had built literal departments. She reminded me that my desperation didn’t mean I should take scraps from whoever offered, but that I should look to my fields to see what else could grow.”

“From the first moment I saw her in the wild, exiting my favorite bookstore underneath a pile of new pages, it was impossible to ignore my visceral reaction to Jennifer’s presence. She was rooted, curious and actually alive (we don’t realize how rare that is until it’s looking back at us, kindly demanding the same). . . over the years, my time with Jennifer has given the clues, schematics and designs to keep getting outside of the self to play, to hurt so to heal, to expose and to celebrate - all in the name of embodying the person we know we are but may not yet be living. Her spectrum is vast - I can listen to her speak for hours. Also, without a single word, she can sell the world with a smirk. Jennifer hears with more than her ears and speaks with more than her words.”

“The first time I heard Jennifer read her work in a poetry class I knew she was someone I wanted in my creative corner. I’m consistently moved by her ability to create striking written stories across time and space. Her voice is what I am always seeking more of in my own work – undeniable wisdom and clarity with the perfectly crafted dose of mystery and mysticism. Jennifer is generous and precise in how she delivers feedback to others. Not everyone who writes is a strong editor – Jennifer shines in both areas. Her deeply intuitive and curious spirit are always present as she asks the right questions at the right time. She is the ultimate dot connector, and while others are comfortable with straight paths through projects, she reminds us all to be open to new shapes, to look for constellations. To be a part of Jennifer Azlant’s artistic universe is a transformative opportunity. The best people are the ones who propel us outside of our cocoons while at the same time reminding us that we can trust our center. Jennifer is someone who reminds me of this when I forget. Whether in the desert at Jackrabbit or over a Zoom call, anyone who has the opportunity to work with Jennifer will experience their day-to-day life pulsing with art.”

“Jen is a rare kind of creative force and guide, who makes room not just for art, but for the soul that animates it - inviting all to be seen, felt, and celebrated. She carries a quiet, powerful magic - a blend of reverence and intuition that cultivates the fertile ground necessary for transformation. . . As a lifelong creative whose work is often tied to performance and productivity, I didn’t realize how deeply I needed someone to remind me that art can simply exist for its own sake - that I can exist for my own sake. . . In a world that asks so much of artists, Jen gives back what we didn’t know we lost: time, trust, and tenderness.”
